Daily Acts of Kindness

Today, I had the unique opportunity to speak at the SPARK Toastmasters Club where I received a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of Outstanding Performance, as well as the Best Speaker Award.

During my speech, I touched on several subjects related to happiness; but most importantly, I shared a simple technique, which is a major part of my daily routine. This simple habit always makes me feel good, and I sleep in peace at night because I feel like my day has not been wasted.
The habit is to practice 1 or 2 acts of kindness to someone who may not be able to pay you back. For example, spending time at the home for the elderly, helping a kid with his homework, or just being tolerant to someone who annoys you.

This daily act of kindness increases the production of serotonin in the brain (the happy chemical), which results in calming the nerves as well as reducing anxiety and depression. In addition, regular acts of kindness have proven to reduce levels of stress, pain, and insomnia. Kindness is also contagious. Studies have shown that practicing kindness not only benefits the receiver, but also the giver. However, it does not end here, even the person observing the act of kindness receives the physical and mental benefits.

Make this technique a daily habit, and watch your energy shift in the positive direction.
